MANU NATIONAL PARK AND COMMUNAL RESERVE OF AMARAKAERI

Amarakaeri Eco Lodge
Manu National Park and the Communal Reserve of Amarakaeri

The Communal Reserve of Amarakaeri is located in the department of Madre de Dios among important protected areas such as Manu National Park, Tambopata National Reserve and Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, forming an international corridor for preservation that involves protected areas in Bolivia and Brazil. The Communal Reserve area has a typical tropical humid climate. It has plains and meandering rivers in its lowlands, as well as mountainous formations with deep gullies in its highlands. The sub basins that flow on the left margins of the Alto Madre de Dios and the Madre de Dios rivers hydrologically define the Reserve.
At the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve there are areas with great biological diversity such as the humid forest and the very humid subtropical forest, the subtropical rain-forest with very rugged grounds and many fast flowing rivers, gullies and streams and semi saturated rain forest in the mountains that separate Madre de Dios and Cusco where we find the sources of the Chilive and Colorado Rivers. This area has rough surfaces with abundant tree ferns and continuous cloudiness. The forest shows varied vegetation based on the existing altitudes. There is a large quantity of species widely distributed in the various forest formations and associations. Within the area dwell threatened fauna such as the giant otter, jaguar, spider monkey, spectacled bear, macaws and crax.

Location
The area where our lodge is found goes from an extraordinary altitudinal transept of 4,300 m.a.s.l. at the Andean mountain tops, to 200 m.a.s.l. in the Amazon plains. Within it there dwell various ethnic groups known as Amaracaire as well as other groups that have never had any contact with the modern world. The Reserve is a natural environment with more than 20,000 vascular plants, 1,200 species of butterflies, 1,000 different kinds of birds, 200 different kinds of mammals and an unknown number of reptiles, amphibians and insects. These and many other reasons make Amaracaire Eco Lodge your best alternative when visiting the Manu area. Visit us and you won’t regret it.
